Located in one of the busiest townships in the entire state of
Selangor, Sunway Pyramid is one of the state’s more popular shopping
centres.
It was opened in July, 1997 as Malaysia's first themed shopping and
entertainment mall. One of the mall's most easily recognised design is
the Egyptian-inspired Pyramid with a lion
"standing guard" at the entrance. The rest of the building is
embellished in the monumental style, complete with hieroglyphics
decorating facades, along with numerous Pharonic statuaries.
Its interior is also well-planned with a continuation of the Egyptian-themed décor in some areas, as well as many spots that are perfect for snapping photos.
The mall has a 48-lane bowling alley that serves as the venue for many international competitions. There is also an indoor ice-skating rink.
With many retail outlets offering a variety of branded names, this location also has numerous restaurants, fast food joints, snack counters, a supermarket and a 10-screen cineplex. Sunway Pyramid is also one of the only shopping malls in Malaysia to have an indoor ice-skating rink.
Nearby you will find the popular Sunway Lagoon theme park, a resort hotel, and lots of places for al fresco dining not only along the front and side of the complex but also across the road in the busy commercial centre.
For some entertainment and fun, the mall houses the 48-lane Pyramid Mega Lanes, which is also the venue and host to many international world class tournaments such as the 1998 Commonwealth Games, the Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships as well as the CGU Asian Bowling Tours organized by ESPN. There is also Pyramid Ice, which is Malaysia's largest indoor ice-skating rink, and host to the prestigious Skate Asia 2000, World Ice Hockey 5's tournaments and Skate Malaysia 2004 and 2005.
